The first issue of AudioTechnology - the magazine for sound engineers and recording musicians - hit the streets in February 1998. As founding editor and co-creator, I wrote an opening column for each issue called First Word.
First Word was published regularly from February 1998 to early 2006, through an era where recording and music production completed the move out of big studios and into personal computers. Shadowing this move, First Word's content ranged from state-of-the-industry comment to educational and how-to articles. Despite finishing in 2006, I still get asked for copies of particular First Words, or taken to task over something I wrote in one of them.
The purpose of this blog, therefore, is to put all of the First Words together in one publicly accessible place, along with contextual information and personal reflection.
